Epsom salt, known chemically as magnesium sulfate, is a chemical compound consisting of magnesium, sulfur and oxygen. The Epsom salt owes its name-"Epsom salt"-to the city of Epsom in central England, where the extraction of this compound was started by evaporating mineral water. Epsom salt has been known for hundreds of years and is used to relax baths. Epsom salt looks like traditional table salt, is odorless and has a skin-neutral pH.
